I've recently completed a quick-easy guide inspired by my 16-year old daughter called "Keezy's 10 Awesome Rules for Teenaged Dating"! This 10 chapter pocket-guide is full of whimsical and sarcastic whit exposing the dilemma of teenage dating amid the new social media generation. This book has chapter titles like Ever Heard of Fabric Softener, Mr. Cling?, What a Tweet! and You Don't Own Me!

Keezy addresses Generation Y (Why) and the perils of losing your identity to a boyfriend and, along with that, your self-respect. She even berates the current political climate by urging Gen Y to rise above partisan bickering.
Her advice to respect your own opinions and those of others (as long as they are truly the opinions of that person) is a good lesson for all. "Being yourself is the most respectful thing you could ever do."
There is even a chapter on the fine art of laundry that address clingy clothing and clingy relationships, and what would a teenage guide book be without the joys and pitfalls of social networking? Her best advice (hope my granddaughter reads this!) is "Don't say (Tweet) anything you wouldn't want my grandma to hear."
Minus Tweeting and Facebooking, I would've bypassed tons of grief in high school with Keezy around to get in my face telling me it's okay to be myself. Where were you in the 60s, Keez!
A handy space at the end of each chapter gives the reader the opportunity to jot down thoughts.
Diana Black's "illustrations with attitude" complete this entertaining, enlightening read.

Keezys 10 Awesome Rules for Teenage dating is really a great book for preteens getting ready and thinking about dating, as well as those who are dating. Keezy speaks to the reader at their age level relating her wise thoughts concerning dating and loving yourself! Great Fun with pages for personal thoughts and interacting with the book.
Keezy's 10 Awesome Rules for Teenaged Dating is a must-read for any pre-teen. Through the voice of a 16-year-old girl (which is captured extremely well) the author addresses the importance of maintaining self-respect when it comes to ethics and issues that all teens face sooner or later like dating, driving, bullying, smoking, slamming, and sex. A charming cover and illustrations throughout the book enhance the reading experience. I plan to see that all of my grand kids have this in hand when they reach the appropriate age.
I read Keezy's 10 Awesome Rules for Teenage Dating to my mentally challenged, twenty-one-year old daughter. She absolutely loved it! She laughed and enjoyed all of Keezy's zany antics! It's hard to find a book these days that contains down to earth, moral advice written in a very stylist and contemporary voice. You love Keezy immediately, and you care about what she has to say. I had no reservations about reading this to my daughter since Keezy's advice was tastefully delivered. She covers a plethora of subjects important to today's teenager. No rocks left unturned, so to speak. I would recommend this to anyone with a teenage daughter! This book would be great for book clubs, church youth groups, or any venue where teenage girls congregate. Keezy's 10 Awesome Rules for Teenage Dating is a "10" all around!

This is a wonderful book for tweens and teens. At first, to be honest, I was concerned about the amount of incorrect grammar being used, and then I remembered that this is being written by a teen - Keezy, the main character in the story -- for another teen (your child). The lingo that Keezy uses reaches kids, and may help them to understand important concepts that my correct grammar might not.
Keezy tells it like it is, and gives great advice about a lot of different subjects that tweens and teens think about and encounter. She addresses the way young people think about their parents, and validates that parents may be "aliens," but in the end they are "aliens" worth listening to. Her advice guides young boys and girls ultimately to do the right thing.
Keezy addresses bullying, hair color, respecting yourself, and sex - along with many other important subjects. She is in the mix of teenage life and can directly communicate with other teens. She can say what you as a parent may have said a hundred times, but in a way that cuts to the chase and makes your teenager see that you are only trying to save them from painful mistakes.
I especially like that our author, T.L. Gray, has added a journal/diary page after each chapter that addresses what the young person has learned. They are encouraged to write in this book and to reference back to their notes as they deal with many of these issues on a daily basis. Educational studies have shown that such methods help children better understand what they have read. She emphasizes the importance of young teens' thoughts and the true meaning of what they think.
Keezy argues both from a girl's perspective and a boy's perspective. T.L. introduces the teens to some great quotes that get Keezy's point across as she writes in the "Slam It" chapter. For example "There are a terrible lot of lies going about the world, and the worst of it is that half of them are true." -- Winston Churchill.
We like to think that tweens and teens are just small adults, but this simply is not true. They are dealing with a whole set of issues that we would just as soon forget ever existed. Keezy explains dating, or the lack of it, in our technological world of 2012 -- especially how gossip and slander may shatter a modern teenager's world by having an untruth "go viral" and be spread over the entire world in a few seconds.
Being a teenager hasn't changed that much over the years; they are constantly dealing with, as did we, new things to worry about. Keezy shares how Facebook was invented by use of the Harvard website, as explored in the movie THE SOCIAL NETWORK. The originator lashed out at a pretty college girl to get even with such popular people, and everyone got so excited about this new phenomenon that this "virtual slam book" actually shut down Harvard's website.
I'm not at all against Facebook when it is used in appropriate ways, but I feel sorry for today's teenagers, who face not only the problems we had in our day, but these new-fangled ones as well. Let Keezy, whose visage was created by artist and writer Diana Black, help your children maneuver through 21st Century pains and problems.
This is a magnificent book for both tweens and teens of both genders. I feel very comfortable giving it "4 tiaras" out of 5. It will make a positive difference in your child's life, and Keezy will give you a great starting point to peer into your child's world and to begin an important discussion with your child about it.
